THE CURRENT PROJECTS OF THE KOLI CULTURAL SOCIETY
Main Project: Cultural and residence co-operation between Finnish and Russian Karelia
Funding: Ministry of Education And Culture & Finland-Russia-Society
Koli Cultural Society wants to promote sustainable art and cultural tourism through its actions. In this project we are looking for partnerships for developing residence activity from the relatively close area of Karelia across the border (Russian Karelia). The project has been developed in co-operation with Russian Karelian residencies (Petrozavodsk, Sortavala and Kostomukša) and the Arts Promotion Center Finland.
The project promotes cross-border residence co-operation and cultural exchange. This takes place in two main fields: through networking between friendship residences and through cultural co-operation between friendship residences. By networking, the participant residences' workgroups will develop cross-border co-operation and exchange best practices through regular online meetings. Once the borders are opened once again, the workgroups will get acquinted with the participant residences through site visits, if at all possible.
Through friendship residence activity, we will enhance artists' chances of networking and exchanging ideas with collagues in Russian Karelian residences. Online residence artist meetings will also work as a form of peer support for artists in need of such support. Additionally, the artist exchange between residences will be enhanced by promoting the co-operation between residences on social media and in other channels. The project aims at starting a long-term friendship and cultural exchange program between participant residences.
The startup grant from Ministry of Education and Culture and Finland-Russia-Society has enabled the construction of this website for Koli Cultural Society.

Project: The audiovisual acquisitions of the Koli Cultural Society
Funding: Vaara-Karjalan Leader
With the the project grant, Koli Cultural Society will purchase a video projector, speakers and a screen. The art residence of Koli Cultural Society is visited yearly by audiovisual artists, who need a video projector for their work. With the help of the video projector, artists will be able to exhibit their work in the residence both in the field of visual art as well as audiovisual art. Koli Cultural Society organizes the Kylillä/In The Village movie festival and a proprietary video projector and screen will enable movie screenings at the residence. The video projector and screen are also necessary for some meetings of the Society. In particular, resident artist selection meetings call for the visual presentation of data, as the selection council familiarizes itself with the works of the applicants. The acquired equipment will also be made available for hire to other local associations and private persons. At the moment, there is no equivalent rental equipment available in Koli.
