KOLIN RYYNÄNEN ART RESIDENCE
The Koli Cultural Society Art Residence in Kolin Ryynänen is situated in the village of Koli next to the Koli National Park. Koli is about 70 kilometres north from the city of Joensuu, which is the regional capital and centre of North Karelia, Eastern Finland.
The village has about 300 inhabitants. For those seeking peace and quiet, Koli is ideal. Koli is also a good place for nature lovers, as the village is surrounded by the lakes, hills and forests of the local national park.

RESIDENCE SPACE
Koli Cultural Society provides a residence for artists in the Kolin Ryynänen building. The studio and the apartment are situated upstairs of a traditional old wooden building. The working space is well-suited for artists working in visual arts. The studio is about 58 square meters with windows on all 3 sides, a sink and running water.
The living accommodation is a self-contained, fully equipped apartment: living room and bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. There is linen, internet, TV, washing machine and a fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher, a fridge, coffee maker and an electric kettle. There is a double bed in the bedroom and a sofa bed in the living room, which also sleeps 2.
There is a Gastropub downstairs in the same building, food, drink and sometimes live music. If you prefer silence and peace it is better to visit outside of the busiest tourist season. The busiest time in Koli is the summer (especially July), but the pub is also busy around Christmas, New Year and during the skiing season from the end of February until Easter time. There is also a hostel and a museum in separate buildings in the same yard.
There is a sauna you can use in the backyard of Kolin Ryynänen. Please make an agreement on the use of the sauna with the restaurant staff.

ART COURSES AND WORKSHOPS
It is possible to arrange art courses and workshops for both professionals and amateurs at Kolin Ryynänen. Koli village welcomes all forms of activities, which involve visiting artists and the local community.
EXHIBITIONS
Visiting resident artists can organize exhibitions in the Gastro-pub. There are two rooms for exhibitions. The rooms have old-fashioned wallpapers with a floral pattern.

There is a grocery store in the village, literally a stone's throw from the residence. The tourist information office is located just across the street. You can also get tourist information from Visitor Centre Ukko at the top of the hill. Koli has several restaurants, equipment rental shops as well as a spa. You can also enquire about children's day care from the local day care center.
Koli provides visitors with excellent possibilities for outdoor activities. The Koli National Park starts from the immediate vicinity of the residence and you can access the trails of the national park directly from the residence. In winter, Koli has downhill skiing slopes as well as an extensive network of cross-country skiing tracks. Local entrepreneurs provide mountain bike, canoe, SUP board, snowshoe and ski rentals.

HOW TO GET TO KOLI?
Koli is located some 70 kilometres to the north from Joensuu. You can get to Koli with public transport.
There is a regular train and bus connection from Helsinki to Joensuu. Similarly, when coming from the North from the direction of Oulu, you can take a bus straight to the station in Kolinportti.

There's a direct bus connection from Joensuu to the village centre in Koli from Monday through to Friday. You'll have to change buses at Kolinportti. Similarly, if coming from the north, you can continue directly from Kolinportti to Koli. The continuation transport from Kolinportti to the residence must be booked in advance from the traffic operator at the latest on the previous day by 18:00. The operator is Kolin Tilausajopalvelu Oy, tel. +35820 741 4392. The total cost of transport is around 20 €. On other days you can buy a ticket to Kolinportti, from where there is roughly 10 kilometres to the residence. You can get a taxi for this final journey. https://kolintaksi.fi/
Additionally, there is a joint taxi service that runs between Joensuu and Koli. You have to book it in advance and the transportation is from door to door. The route for this service is composed based on orders and therefore their schedules are approximate, not fixed. The taxi will go to the air port, the train station or the central hospital, as per ordered, and will deliver the client to their destination in Koli. You can also climb onboard from somewhere along the way (ie. between Joensuu and Koli, along road 6). The joint taxi is recommended to be booked in advance on the day before from the number +35820 741 4392. The price for the joint taxi service is 70 €/booking (1-2 persons). We're open to applications from all fields of art. You can apply to our residence for 1-2 months. The residence rent is 420 € per month. The residence apartment provides accommodation for up to 4 people. The residence rent includes the opportunity to host exhibitions in the Gastropub Ryynänen downstairs.
